Terms.
What you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. Short, because there is not much to govern yet.
What these terms cover
They cover this website and the launch-notification list, which are the only things Jot currently offers. Wrivio Jot is not released: there is no download, nothing to install, and nothing to buy.
The sections headed The software licence and The subscription are stated in advance so you can read them before deciding to wait for the product. They take effect for you when you install the software, and not before.
"We" and "us" mean Wrivio. "You" means you.
This website
You may read it, quote it, and link to it. The text and design are ours; the source code of the site and the app is published for reading, and no licence to reuse it is granted by its being visible.
We try to keep every claim on this site accurate, and the status page exists specifically to mark the difference between what has been proven on real hardware and what has only been written and tested. Nothing on the site is a warranty.
The launch-notification list
If you give us an email address, we will use it to send you one message when there is something to download, and for nothing else. Details are in the privacy policy. Ask at any time and it is deleted. We may also simply never launch, in which case you will hear nothing at all.
The software licence
When Jot is released, installing it gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it on machines you control, at work or at home, for as long as you like. There is no seat count and no activation.
You may not:
- redistribute or resell the software, or a modified version of it;
- remove or alter its identifying marks and present it as your own;
- use it to break the law, or to break the terms of a service it connects to.
Everything you capture with it is yours. We claim no rights over it, and since it never reaches us, we could not exercise any if we did.
The source is published for reading. It is not open source: no licence to copy, modify or redistribute it is granted.
Pricing
Jot currently has no subscription or paid sync feature. If that changes, the price and terms will be published before it is offered.
Things outside our control
The AI features depend on a provider you chose and pay separately. If one of those changes or goes away, we will do what can reasonably be done.
Your captures do not depend on any of that. They are a local file, which is the whole point of the design.
No warranty
The software will be provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. It is made by one person and it will have bugs.
Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Jot writes to a local database and takes its own rotating daily copies, and neither of those is a substitute for a backup of your machine. A local-first tool puts your data genuinely in your hands, which includes the part where losing the machine loses the data.
Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost data or lost time arising from your use of the software or this site. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — which, for the free tier, is nothing.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights come first and this section does not touch them.
Ending it
You can stop using Jot at any time by uninstalling it, and remove everything it holds by deleting its app-data folder. We may end your licence if you materially break these terms — in practice, that means redistributing the software or using it to attack a service it connects to.
Changes to these terms
When they change, the date at the top changes. If a change is material and you hold a paid subscription, you will be told before it applies to you.
Governing law
The governing law and the courts with jurisdiction will be stated here before the software is released and anything can be bought. Until then these terms cover a website and a mailing list, and your local consumer law applies to you as it normally would. We would rather leave this blank than name a jurisdiction before there is a business established in one.
